“…Not saying Ferrari holds the 2022 World Championship” : Felipe Massa expresses caution in regarding Ferrari as potential World Champions

Felipe Massa
When Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc beat reigning World Champion Max Verstappen in his mighty Red Bull and clinched the pole position in the season opener in Bahrain, everyone was quite surprised to see the pace of the Ferrari SF-75. In the main race on Sunday, Verstappen’s Red Bull broke down but Leclerc’s Ferrari was as steady as ever as he swerved down the race track to victory.
Seeing the brilliant performance from Charles Leclerc that day, all the Motorsport fans were convinced that after two years of slump, Ferrari has made the perfect car in accordance with the rule changes that the FIA has introduced for the new 2022 season. While Ferrari’s chief Championship rivals, Red Bull and Mercedes, are struggling with reliability and speed issues, Ferrari’s SF-75 seems near-flawless as the Italian Scuderia sits on top of the Championship table.
Like every other person who has watched the first three races of the new F1 season, Brazilian driver Felipe Massa is very impressed with Ferrari and he believes they have made huge improvements not only to their car, but also to their entire organization to aim for a Championship this year. But, he still thinks Ferrari should not count their chickens before they are hatched, because a lot of things can happen in the remaining F1 races and any new team might emerge as a strong contender for the Championship at any time.
“We have to stay calm” : Felipe Massa believes it is still a long way before Ferrari can actually be pinned down as a Championship winner in 2022
While Ferrari has indeed performed well in the first three races of the new season, they have a long way ahead of them. If the FIA announces a replacement for the Russian Grand Prix, then we will have a record-breaking 23 races this season. That means, 20 races are still left and the Scuderia has to keep up their consistency if they wish to have a chance at winning the Championship.
Speaking on Ferrari’s possibility of winning the F1 2022 Championship title, former F1 driver Felipe Massa said, “We have to stay calm, because it is still difficult to take stock of what are the forces at play. I’m certainly not saying that Ferrari holds the 2022 World Championship.”
Mass appeared quite pleased with how Ferrari has performed in the races so far, barring the reliability issues with Sainz’s car in Australia, which caused the Spaniard to withdraw from the race a bit early. He also said he expects the Scuderia to win in Italy, Spain and Monaco.
