Nyck De Vries in contention for a Williams seat to replace Alex Albon at Singapore GP
Alex Albon and Nyck De Vries
Nyck De Vries, the Mercedes reserve driver, was behind the wheel of Williams FW44 in place of Alex Albon during the Italian Grand Prix and as per recent reports, it is believed that there are chances that Williams might ask him again for his services if their Thai-British driver is not able to recover in time.
Nyck De Vries was asked to take the place of Alex Albon for the Italian Grand Prix on very short notice, and despite that, was able to do a brilliant race to come home with 2 points for himself and the Wantage-based team.
Moreover, during the Monza weekend, it was reported that Albon was not able to participate because of appendicitis, and it has recently come to light that, during his surgery, there were a few complications as the 26-year-old suffered from respiratory failure.
As things stand, he is recovering from the aftermath of his surgery in the intensive care unit of the San Gerardo hospital and is expected to be discharged tomorrow, however, there is no fixed timeline as to when he will be able to race again.
With Alex Albon being a doubt for the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, the door has again opened for Nyck De Vries to take Albon’s place on the team, and considering how well he did for them in Monza, Williams will also have no problem with him driving for them again in Singapore.

Nyck De Vries secured a P9 finish for Williams in Monza
Nyck De Vries has become the talk of the town since his Monza exploits and has garnered a lot of praise from up and down the paddock. The 27-year-old was able to keep a pack of faster cars behind him for the most part of the race, and for that, received a lot of applause.
The Singapore Grand Prix weekend starts on the 30th of September, and until then, there is plenty of time that can help Alex Albon in recovering from his major scare.
Williams has released a statement regarding the condition of Albon and has said, “He made excellent progress overnight and was able to be removed from mechanical ventilation yesterday morning. He has now been transferred to a general ward and is expected to return home tomorrow. There were no other complications.”
Williams further adds, “Alex’s full focus is on recovery and preparation ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix later this month.”
Alex Albon after missing an F1 Grand Prix has got his sights set on getting ready for the Singapore Grand Prix and as per Williams’s statement, there is an indication that they would also ideally like to have their main driver back.
However, it is extremely difficult to set a fixed timeline when it comes to recovering from health-related problems and it can’t be said for certain whether Albon would be able to recover in time or not.
Singapore is one of the most physically demanding tracks on the 2022 F1 calendar and it is going to be interesting to see who the Williams team would prefer between Albon and De Vries for the upcoming race.
