Oscar Piastri set to replace Fernando Alonso for Alpine for 2023

Oscar Piastri set to replace Fernando Alonso for Alpine for 2023

Oscar Piastri

Oscar Piastri will drive in Formula 1 after long waited for a seat to be vacant. The Australian won the 2021 Formula 2 series and was waiting for his chance to showcase his skills in the pinnacle of motorsports. Oscar was a reserve driver for Alpine for the last few years. Joining Alpine will be a major move in his career, as he starts directly inside the deep mid-field of the championship table.

This move was only possible after a chain reaction took place starting last week. Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement after racing for 15 years last week, ending his career with Aston Martin. This announcement left Aston with no replacements to bear so they took charge of another world champion Fernando Alonso. Fernando joined F1 last season with his title-winning team, Renault turned into Alpine. But he decided to move on from the French team into the British hand joining Aston.

This move then gave an open and obvious chance to Oscar Piastri. Fans aren’t surprised with the move as it was already expected for the young driver to come into F1 with the BWT-powered team.

With Oscar joining Alpine also has now confirmed their 2023 lineup, he will join beside Esteban Ocon. With the young driver incoming now only four teams are left with a question mark on one seat or on both of them.

Alfa Romeo has Valtteri Bottas confirmed for the 2023 season with no one yet confirmed besides him. Alpha Tauri also has Pierre Gasly on a seat with no one yet confirmed to start beside him. William’s as none of their drivers yet confirmed. Haas has Kevin Magnussen on board with Mick Schumacher rumored to join Alpine, which now is not possible, could start beside Kevin but nothing is confirmed as of now.

Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, McLaren, Aston Martin, and now Alpine have all of their drivers confirmed. The grid will have 90 percent of the drivers being young other than Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.
