McLaren has been struggling in the 2023 Formula 1 season. To turn things around, the team started taking the necessary actions. They announced a restructuring and the departure of their technical director James Key. Zak Brown stated it was a change needed for the team to move in the right direction. And Andrea Stella is focused on leading the team back to the front of the field.

Stella feels that the F1 teams should take inspiration from Red Bull. He believes the Milton Keynes-based team has done everything better than the others on the grid. The Italian wants to stir McLaren in that direction and match Red Bull’s progress. Stella spoke to Autosport about Red Bull’s extraordinary performance. He feels taking a look at RB19 would help other teams understand what they have to do to get better.

Stella spoke about McLaren’s phenomenal seasons in the previous years. As for the 2023 season, he stated, “ We might even have to accept that there’s a season in which one team is dominant. But I think with all the information you have now, even with the possibility that you have to look at the car like we have cars on display on Friday, there are no excuses for the other teams to say we don’t know what to do. I keep saying it’s more for the other teams that they need to take this opportunity to improve.” Stella does not think there is an easy solution in Formula 1.

Andrea Stella does not think Red Bull would be affected by the cost cap. He mentioned they have a huge advantage and they wouldn’t be affected in terms of the gap. “ That’s my expectation, but I would expect that other teams should take not only inspiration from a morale point of view but a technical inspiration. The season is long and there is time to transform this information you get into developments, therefore I would expect towards the end of the season that the group will get even closer to Red Bull.”

The 52-year-old also spoke about Aston Martin’s improvement over the winter. He feels it is possible to make this kind of jump and reduce the gap to Red Bull. Aston Martin’s ability to figure out the right concept gave hope to Stella. It is exactly what he needs to help McLaren get back in form. According to the team boss, McLaren’s development in the background is positive, and the team needs to pursue and capitalize on the right direction.

Andrea Stella spoke about McLaren’s rank in the 2023 F1 pecking order. He feels that it is close between fifth and last place. He justified it by saying the gap is less between the other teams. This, of course, does not include Red Bull. Even Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Mercedes are a step ahead of McLaren, according to Stella. The Italian refused to put a number and stated his team was somewhere in the middle. McLaren will bring updates over the course of the season.
