George Russell

George Russell and Mercedes have made some pretty substantial progress all throughout the season. When the 2022 car first rolled out in testing, the ‘no side-pod’ design seemed to completely shock the fans and other teams as well. It was sought after to make the car faster than ever. Way faster than its 2021 sibling but that did not seem to be the case as the design failed incredibly.

The amount of porpoising that the team had to endure was more hazardous than anything. It was clearly hurting both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell by the looks of it. However with a new technical directive coming in place to reduce the porpoising, the Brackley based team had gone on to be on a steady rise as they tear through the pack. Back when the season had started, there were occasions where the team struggled to get out of Q1 and make it into Q3.

That seems to have changed with constant development occurring throughout the year which in turn has benefited the whole team and increased their performance to a point where they were about to win their first race of the season in Mexico. Ahead of the Brazil GP, George Russell went on to talk about his goals that he and the team want to achieve in the remaining two races on the calendar.

The Mercedes driver thinks that the Italian team has become a good match for them as they approach the final few races of the season. Here is what George had to say to Sky Sports. “The car this year is a very different beast compared to the one Mercedes had last year. Our performance in Mexico was a little bit stronger than our base performance. Our main fight is with Ferrari to finish ahead of them. Red Bull have been the most robust team at every single track, here with the long straights I expect they will have an efficient car and will be the team to beat,”he said.

When asked about his appearance at Las Vegas, George Russell went on to talk about the same. I got my air miles up! I was in the factory on Tuesday. It’s been a very important couple of weeks for development for next year. Some important meetings and simulations sessions last week which I wanted to be back home for,” according to the Mercedes driver.

George has put in an incredible performance for Mercedes as he sits in 4th place in the driver standings with 231 points and has managed to also achieve his first ever pole position in his F1 career this season during the Hungarian GP. With Russell already out scoring Lewis Hamilton by a few points, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the battle between the Mercedes drivers.
