Many fans attended the 2023 Italian Grand Prix, and while they had a blast during the three-day event, Pierre Gasly brought F1’s attention to the problems the teams/drivers faced. During the event, the F1 paddock was heavily overflowing with VIPs/paddock guests, and Gasly believes it made it difficult for the teams to operate.
Formula 1 consists of a lot of equipment that needs to be moved from one place to another after every session, and Pierre Gasly feels. At the same time, he always enjoys interacting with the fans; the atmosphere in the F1 paddock was a bit too much to deal with for the drivers as well as the team personnel.
While shedding light on the same, he told Autosport, “I love fans, and I always love to stop by and give some time. But then it’s obviously our work environment. Sometimes it’s a bit tricky to get around and make sure that we are on time for the commitments that we got because it’s minute by minute, and it’s clearly one of the busiest pitlanes.“
“It’s very enjoyable, but sometimes it’s even people knocking at the door inside the hospitality, you wonder how they got there. So [people need to] give the space we need to work properly.” The Frenchman has made it clear that in his opinion, the crowd could have been better managed, especially in the F1 paddock.
Pierre Gasly and Co. had a disastrous outing at the Italian GP
While Pierre Gasly has shown concern toward the crowd managed at the Italian GP, the overall event was one to forget for the Alpine Formula 1 team. The A523 was nowhere near the pace of its rivals at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza Circuit, as it lacked the raw pace to become a nuisance for the midfield players.
Moreover, the performance output of the A523 was so bad that Gasly could only manage a P15 finish. In contrast, his teammate, Esteban Ocon, had an even worse outing as he was forced to retire the car because of a technical problem. Alpine has got a lot of work to do heading to Singapore.
As the 2023 F1 season has rolled on, the French team has kept on falling backward in the Constructors standings and is currently in sixth place. If they are to have any chance of finishing fifth, they would need to start performing exceptionally well from the next event onward. However, it seems extremely difficult considering the problems Alpine has faced so far.
