Pierre Gasly gives hint on Red Bull future after talks with Helmut Marko

With his future up in the balance, Pierre Gasly recently talked to Helmut Marko about the topic.

With Sergio Perez having signed a contract extension at Red Bull – which keeps him at the team till at least the end of 2024, Pierre Gasly’s future within the Red Bull system is within doubt. This can be seen as Gasly’s second time being snubbed by Red Bull. For the 2021 season, the man who had replaced Gasly at Red Bull, Alex Albon was himself replaced by Sergio Perez.

While that decision would have been easier to understand for Gasly, this may not come so easily. The AlphaTauri driver has been very consistent over the past 2 seasons, even taking a victory at AlphaTauri’s home race in Monza. This was their first victory since the rebrand to AlphaTauri, and the first since Sebastian Vettel in 2008, also at Monza.

Earlier, while speaking on the F1 Nation podcast, Tom Clarkson had called for Gasly to ‘Do a Carlos Sainz’ and leave the Red Bull setup, saying that he should replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren. Despite if that particular move may or not materialize, it becomes clearer by the day that Gasly may need a change in his career.

Where does Pierre Gasly’s future lie?

Gasly’s future lies in the balance.

Aside from him, the Red Bull setup also has other drivers in contention for the seat in 2024. There’s Alex Albon, but there’s also Liam Lawson, Juri Vips, and Dennis Hauger or Jehan Daruvala. Of course, it’s also possible that somehow, Sergio Perez may get a further contract extension.

Even if Gasly stays at Red Bull, there is no assurance that he will get the seat. In this situation, he may be considering leaving the Red Bull setup. Earlier, when speaking on his current situation and Sergio Perez’s extension, Gasly had made clear that he wanted more than continuing to drive for the Red Bull sister team.

“This decision has an impact on my career and ambitions. That’s why we now have to look at how to move forward. My ambitions are higher than just fighting for a place in the top 10, I want more than that.”

Pierre Gasly recently had a conversation with Red Bull advisor, Helmut Marko. As expected, it was about Gasly’s future within the Red Bull family. On being asked, he responded that nothing can be confirmed as of yet. Earlier, Marko had said that Gasly has no other options at the moment than to stay at Red Bull.

Gasly stated that he feels he is ready for the next step in his career: “I have spoken with Helmut Marko and more talks will follow to see what is the best solution for the future. Sergio is doing a good job for Red Bull, but it’s a moment in my career when I feel ready for the next step,”

He added: “We’ll see what happens, everything is open. I don’t have more to say about it at the moment. It’s a continuous conversation.”

Even if Gasly may have his mind on getting a different seat for next season, there’s no assurance that he will get that either. It depends on the situations at Aston Martin and McLaren with Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo, respectively. Of course, there is also Alpine, with Fernando Alonso not having signed a deal for 2023 yet, but Alpine may choose to put their hottest prospect, Oscar Piastri in the seat.
