Formula 1 heads to Spa-Francorchamps for the Belgian GP this weekend. The Belgian circuit remains one of the most dangerous tracks on the F1 calendar due to its high-speed characteristics. The track has witnessed the deaths of racing drivers Anthoine Hubert and Dilano van’t Hoff in 2019 and 2023 respectively. Now, Pierre Gasy has planned a special run to pay homage to the late racing talents.

The French driver has invited all personnel in Formula 1, Formula 2, and Formula 3. The entire grid would run at the historic Belgian track to pay tribute to late Anthoine Hubert who passed away after a tragic F2 crash in 2019. A special moment would also be given to remember the 17-year-old Dilano van’t Hoff who died at Spa-Francorchamps a couple of weeks ago.

The run will take place on Thursday, July 27 on the start-finish straight of the Belgian circuit at 6:30pm local time. Participants would even be provided with special ‘Racing for Anthoine’ t-shirts. Certainly, this is a beautiful tribute to the late French driver who was a close friend of Pierre Gasly for years before his untimely death four years ago.

Pierre Gasly was promoted to Red Bull Racing in 2019 after the departure of Daniel Ricciardo. However, the French driver failed to live up to expectations as he was far behind Max Verstappen. Subsequently, Milton Keynes demoted Gasly back to Toro Rosso mid-way through the season. Anthoine Hubert sent a text message to the 27-year-old after the announcement that stated, “Prove them wrong.”

Hubert passed away before he could see Gasly’s resurgance in F1. The French driver took a shock victory at the 2020 Italian GP for the Red Bull sister team. With the words of his late friend still resonating in his ears. As such, the late F2 driver played an influenctial role in the life of Pierre Gasly with their friendship tracing back to their karting days.

Thus, Pierre Gasly has taken the initiative to organize a memorable run for Anthoine Hubert including a special moment for Dilano van’t Hoff. The French driver has invited the entire grids of F1, F2 and F3 to come together to pay homage to the late F2 driver. Certainly, fans would be looking forward to see a historic spectacle at Spa-Francorchamps.
