Pierre Gasly outrightly denies working on the final “details of the contract” for his rumored move to Alpine

Recently footage captured by Ferrari at the Belgian Grand Prix has surfaced, showing Pierre Gasly talking about the ‘final details of the contract.’ The 26 year old Frenchman has declined all claims to his possible move from AlphaTauri.

Ever since Alonso announced that he will be leaving Alpine for Aston Martin next year a void has been created at the Alpine Renault team leaving their second seat free. Alpine had initially offered the seat to Oscar Piastri who in turn rejected the seat. This opened up the possibility for other drivers on the grid looking to make a change at the end of the year.

The empty Alpine seat is a wonderful opportunity for a race winning driver such as Pierre Gasly as it gives him an opportunity to compete in a front of the midfield and possibly in front of the grid next year. AlphaTauri Team Principal Franz Tost has stated that he is ready to relieve Gasly of his contract if the Frenchman chooses to go to a different team next year.

Should Pierre Gasly move to Alpine?

With Alonso announcing his move to Aston Martin to replace Sebastian Vettel at the end of the 2022 season, many are left wondering as to what will happen to the vacant Alpine seat. Alpine had initially announced that Oscar Piastri would be occupying the seat in the next season but he ended up rejecting it with possible rumours about a seat in McLaren instead.

Many speculate that Alpine are looking towards Pierre as a possible replacement for Alonso in order to create a complete French driver lineup with Gasly alongside Esteban Ocon. The pair could be a potential deadly duo with both being respective race winners on the grid. However, Helmut Marko has stated “There is no exit clause [for] Gasly. There was none before the summer break and there will be none after the summer break.”

Despite Marko’s statement there could be a possibility that AlphaTauri break Gasly’s contract if they decide to go for a promising young driver to occupy the seat in their junior team. This can Gasly the much needed opportunity he needs to try his luck at a different team on the grid.
