‘Abu Dhabi is going to be emotionally charged’: Pierre Gasly talks about the things he will miss from his stint with the Red Bull family

As we all know, Pierre Gasly will be moving to Alpine, and his chapter with the Red Bull family is coming to a close. It will end an almost 9 year-long association with the team. Gasly is excited to get started at the French team, where he will partner ‘former’ friend Esteban Ocon, which means the team will have an all-French lineup. But that doesn’t mean he won’t miss some things at Red Bull.
In an interview with GiveMeSport, the Frenchman said: “I’m extremely excited about this move. I felt like it was needed in my career. I’m extremely excited because when I see the steps and development that the team is making it’s quite impressive and the direction they are heading in is definitely positive.” He further added: “My ambition in Formula 1 is clearly to be fighting at the front.”
He feels Alpine is the right place to ‘match’ his ambitions: “That’s what motivates me every day to push myself in all areas, whether I’m in the gym, or just with nutrition or recovery. I want to be fighting at the front of the grid and I do think big results are achievable with Alpine. I know it is not something that we’ll sort overnight but, definitely, I feel like this is the right place to match my ambitions in Formula 1.”
Of course, he could have had this with Red Bull as well – but there is no assurance of that. Since being demoted to Toro Rosso in 2019, he has been stuck in the midfield – certainly not where he wants to be. He has already been ‘snubbed’ once, as Sergio Perez replaced Alex Albon at the main seat – Who’s to say it won’t happen again? Even if it does happen, the call-up wouldn’t come till at least 2025, as Perez’s contract runs till the end of 2024.

Pierre Gasly considers AlphaTauri his ‘second family’
As it is now, Red Bull can’t give Pierre Gasly what he wants, or needed. But in their long association, the team, particularly AlphaTauri have given him plenty – including his Formula 1 debut, his first podium, and his first win. But it’s not just things in the paddock that he’ll miss.
The 26-year-old said: “I’ve met hundreds of Red Bull athletes from different sports and the experience and the knowledge you get from that is priceless. I’m going to miss the adventures and activities; I’ve flown acrobatic planes, I’ve been skydiving, I’ve been surfing in Australia, I’ve done stuff which I’ll be talking about for my entire life.”
Gasly called AlphaTauri his ‘second family’: “Being in AlphaTauri, I call them my second family. They gave me my chance in F1 and I’ve been working with these guys for several years.” and added: “It hasn’t hit me yet but for sure Abu Dhabi is going to be emotionally charged knowing that I’m not going to be with them anymore. But I know in my life, these are times that I will remember with great, great memories.”
Now it’s onto new things for Pierre Gasly, and one will hope for him that he makes just as many memories at Alpine, so that he does not miss Red Bull too much.
