“Quite upsetting” : Mick Schumacher puts forward disappointment after early retirement in Montreal

The Canadian Grand Prix was a catastrophe for Haas, who once again squandered a good chance to win points and leverage on both drivers’ outstanding qualifying results. Recent F1 returnee Kevin Magnussen’s race was derailed quickly due to wing damage, but Mick Schumacher’s race still looked promising after the first few laps when he found his groove.
In Montreal, Schumacher wasn’t blazing through the track, but he was prepared to hold Zhou Guanyu at bay while securely staying in the points in his VF-22. Regrettably for Schumacher, Haas’ pre-season reliability problems have become a recurring problem in subsequent races, hampering their drivers in both practice sessions and races.

Mick Schumacher describes what went wrong in Montreal
“We had a PU issue, which is obviously very unfortunate because I think we were doing a good race until that point. Our feeling in the car was great, and I think the pace was looking not too bad either, so quite upsetting, but at least we have a few more races to go,” said the 23-year-old driver in the post-race interview, describing his misery.
American-based racing team Haas is now ninth in the constructors’ rankings, having scored only five points since Bahrain and missing to leverage on a VF-22 vehicle that has demonstrated decent speed notwithstanding the team’s lack of improvements.

Operator error, tactical mistakes, and poor reliability are all elements that have contributed to the team’s troubles. It appears that at least one of these issues wreaks havoc on Haas in some manner or the other With Aston Martin’s b-spec vehicle looking like a serious threat, the American team must find ways to avoid placing second-to-last after foregoing the previous two years to prepare on this new rule.
