The 2023 Formula 1 season has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for the Enstone-based Alpine team. While they have produced mixed results so far in the season, the team has also been dealing with quite a few internal issues. The Renault group CEO, Luca De Meo, is concerned about the current situation and has recently addressed the same.
Alpine has witnessed significant personnel this year, with former team principal Otmar Szafnauer being shown the exit door around the midway point of the ongoing campaign. Alan Premane was also shown the exit door, and while the team still has huge aspirations in F1, De Meo has admitted that it’s time for internal change on his team and that past methods of doing things will not be tolerated.
While talking on the same lines, he said, as reported by Motorsport Total.com, “It is not acceptable that English and French people sit at separate tables at the race track or that sometimes different hotels are even booked. You are a team. No wonder, as it was recently announced the Renault power unit is the worst in the Formula 1 field. Apparently, this led to mutual blame between the English and French behind the scenes in the team.”
Looking at the comments of De Meo, it is crystal clear that he will not allow past habits to continue as he feels it has not helped create a harmonious work environment on the team. The 2023 Formula 1 season is seventeen rounds down. The Alpine outfit is sitting in sixth place in the Constructors Championship standings.

Alpine has fallen backward on the F1 grid in 2023
While Luca De Meo has set his sights on fixing the internal structure of the French team, when it comes to the ongoing campaign, the story has been nothing short of tragic. At a point in the season, Alpine was flying high and producing stupendous results, but as the season has rolled on, their form has dipped considerably, and this is one of the reasons why they are in sixth place in the standings.
Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly have done pretty much everything on their part to get the maximum out of the lackluster A523, but it just hasn’t proved enough to challenge the lights of McLaren and Aston Martin. Moreover, how the papaya team has performed since the last few races, fifth place, is pretty much out of the question for Alpine.

Only six races are remaining in the 2023 F1 season, and Alpine is most probably going to finish the campaign in sixth as there is no pressure on them from behind. Considering this fact, they should start putting more effort toward the development of the A524 rather than giving too much attention to the development of the 2023 car.
