Upon hearing the details of Rubens Barrichello’s departure from Williams and with the cold way that Frank Williams, fans showed their lack of surprise in a recent Reddit post debating this.

Comments such as, “Sounds almost exactly like the unceremonious dumping of Damon Hill after he won them the championship,” and “Frank was an atrocious human being,” were made.

Others commented saying, “Hulkenberg said the exact same thing about when he was fired by Williams,” and “Crazy that they had a guy who took pole as a rookie in a sodding 2010 Cosworth-engined Williams, and then gave him the boot for Maldonado of all people,” and “No driver has won two titles in a Williams. 4 out of 7 champions (Piquet, Mansell, Prost, Hill) left the team immediately after their title win (for various reasons) and did not even defend their title in a Williams.

The lack of surprise speaks to the character of the late Williams and how harshly he treated the drivers that were part of his team, especially once their use was over he gave them the boot, signing new drivers in their place.
