Vettel admitted that things change quickly in the world of motorsport as time continues to move forward. The former Red Bull driver highlighted that Michael Schumacher would always be one of the greatest drivers in the sport’s history. With Schumacher’s records and statistics speaking for themselves.

In sport, things keep moving on, they even move on very quickly... Someone like Michael will always be a household name because his successes and his statistics will forever be visible in black and white, but the peculiarities of characters also remain.

Additionally, Sebastian Vettel was convinced that the seven-time champion would be remembered for his historic run with Ferrari. Michael Schumacher managed to build the team around himself and this resulted in unprecedented success at that time. Even today fans recall Micahel Schumacher’s brilliant run with the Scuderia, something that drivers such as Vettel and Fernando Alonso have failed to achieve at Maranello.

Sebastian Vettel admits Micahel Schumacher is less of a household name for today’s generation

The four-time champion admitted that it was hard to imagine stars like Michael Schumacher or Michael Jordon to be perceived differently in the future. However, Vettel mentioned that such icons would remain prominent in the history books with their legacy. Although, for future generations, Schumacher might be less of a legend compared to how the seven-time champion was adored by Vettel’s generation.

Even if it's hard to imagine, a Michael Schumacher or a [NBA icon] Michael Jordan are perceived differently over time. They will never disappear from the history books or among the absolute [diehard fans] but for many children today a Michael Schumacher is less of a household name than for me back then.

So much so, that Sebastian Vettel believed that even the likes of Lionel Messi might be overshadowed by younger stars like Erling Haaland in time to come. Subsequently, Vettel reckoned that this was a good thing as every era could have its stars in different sporting arenas.

He [Michael Schumacher] was a hero of my generation. In the future, perhaps Lionel Messi will be less of a household name than perhaps an Erling Haaland.

Certainly, Michael Schumacher remains one of the all-time greats in the sporting world. However, younger audiences might’ve never seen the legacy of the German driver, especially during his Ferrari days. Nevertheless, even newer fans admire Schumacher’s historic career at the pinnacle of motorsport.
