Sebastian Vettel, the four-time Formula 1 world champion, retired at the end of the 2022 season. One of the reasons for his departure from the sport was to spend time with his loved ones. Though he spent the first few months of the year away from the limelight, he will return to Formula 1 at Nurburgring later this season.

Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull have confirmed that he will drive an F1 car and team up with former Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo at Nurburgring Nordschleife on September 9th. This special event is called “Red Bull Formula Nurburgring 2023.” It is a part of the 12-hour endurance event, which will host other drivers and veterans.

However, apart from Vettel and Ricciardo, the other participants’ names will be confirmed in the coming weeks. The “Red Bull Formula Nurburgring 2023” event will host drivers from various backgrounds, and F1 will return to the circuit for the first time in over a decade.

Sebastian Vettel will get behind the wheels of his previous precious machinery, the RB7. It is an exciting time for the 35-year-old and his fans, as he will reunite with the car which helped him dominate the 2011 Formula 1 season. The RB7 secured 12 Grand Prix wins, and 18 pole positions from the 19 races held that season. It marks a special occasion as it would be the first time Vettel will drive a Red Bull car since 2014.

Vettel spoke about his chance to return to the historic F1 track. He stated, “The myth of the Nordschleife resonated, even if we ‘only’ drove the GP track at the time. In any case, it will be great fun to drive my RB7 – fuelled with e-fuel – on the Nordschleife as part of a show run.” There is no doubt that this event would be close to his heart. This is mainly because it also aligns with his environmental interests and promotes e-fuel.

Sebastian Vettel added, “Motorsport is my passion. It’s important to me to show that racing cars can run just as well and quickly with synthetic CO2-neutral fuel. And that is already today.” The former Aston Martin driver has often expressed his concern for the environment on several occasions, especially during the latter years of his F1 career. Vettel also used carbon-neutral fuels for a special run in the 1993 championship-winning Williams at Silverstone last season.

Before confirming the news, Red Bull’s German handle on social media teased the fans by sharing a partial image of a driver holding a helmet. The F1 fans quickly came up with theories about the identity of the racer. However, they concluded it was Vettel himself, and as it turns out, they were right.
