Sebastian Vettel solemnly admits he still misses ‘friend’ Michael Schumacher

As December 29, 2023 rolled in, the entire Formula One world remembered the great legacy of the legendary German racer Michael Schumacher who is currently bedridden, as per reports. It was exactly 10 years ago that Michael succumbed to a horrific skiing accident in Maribel which left him debilitated and comatose for a long time. Then, he left the treatment facility to be reclused at his home in Switzerland. Even now, the great racer has stayed away from the public eye for a decade, but is hardly forgotten by any of the people associated with F1–including Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel has always been considered as one of the closest persons to Michael Schumacher since they hail from the same country and have both won multiple F1 World Championships. Seb has always seen the former Ferrari racer as a great inspiration, and they have been such good friends that he became the Godfather to Michael Schumacher‘s only son Mick.

But because of Michael’s condition, the two have not been seen together in public, and Sebastian Vettel recently admitted he simply misses his friend.

Schumacher meant a lot to me, racing wasn't the most important thing we had in common. I think that in recent years he would have been extremely important for me: when I had so many doubts, he would surely have had many answers or at least he would have provided me with the right inspiration as a friend. I still miss my friend.

When Sebastian Vettel entered Formula One as a newbie racer for Red Bull’s sister team Scuderia Toro Rosso, Michael Schumacher had already earned legend status thanks to his 7 World Championships for Benetton and Ferrari. Schumacher became somewhat of a guide to Seb Vettel who then went on to have his own period of dominance in F1 with Red Bull. From 2010 to 2013, Sebastian won four back-to-back F1 titles surpassing heavyweights like Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, and Fernando Alonso on the grid.
