Sergio Perez Reveals Initiation Of Contract Extension Talks With Red Bull
Things change in Formula 1 in a blink of an eye. Be it the position of a driver on track or be it his position in a team. One of the major talking points in the early stages of the 2022 season is the second seat at Red Bull. Max Verstappen signed a deal at the start of the year which keeps him at the team until 2028. However, his team mate Sergio Perez is in his last year of contract with Red Bull.
The Mexican has had a strong start to his season and currently stands in P3 in the drivers championship. Perez has scored a haul of 66 points which views him only 19 points behind Max. On account of his strong performances in 2021, the driver was contracted by the Red Bull team for the present season. Perez has ensured to exploit the opportunity of having a race winning car under him as he has managed two podium finishes and a pole position in his 2022 campaign so far.

Sergio Perez String Of Strong Performances Is Forcing Red Bull’s Hand
At the Miami Grand Prix, Perez crossed the chequered flag in P4. The driver depicted his strengths with this performance as he was driving a damaged car which delivered less power than it was capable of. Thus, hampering the Mexican’s afternoon in Miami, which could have been another potential podium. The Journalist, Jenna Fryer via twitter shared that new talks related to Perez’s contract has begun, but both Red Bull and driver are in no hurry to extend the contract.
The news of Sergio Perez putting pen to paper on his contract extension would be an unpleasant news for the AlphaTauri driver, Pierre Gasly. The Frenchman who was demoted from Red Bull in 2019, has been hopeful ever since to make a comeback at the team. Gasly has been delivering strong performances ever since the demotion and has made a case for himself which the Red Bull can’t overlook. He is in his penultimate season with the team as per his current contract.
If and when the news breaks that Red Bull has confirmed Perez to partner Verstappen for 2023, all eyes would be on Gasly’s future. The Milton Keynes based team have a tough decision on their hands with talents like Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly improving their case for the second seat as the season progresses.
