F1 has been on the rise in the last few years, and Stefano Domenicali has made it known that keeping in view what the fans want, the sport will bring the louder engines back from the dead from 2026 onward. Fans have been pushing for it for some time, and they will finally fulfill their wish.
The 2026 F1 season would see the dawn of the next set of regulation changes, and Stefano Domenicali is quite excited about it. In recent seasons F1 has seen many changes, and many in the paddock were against some of those changes. Red Bull boss Christian Horner has previously said, “Formula One over the last few years has in many ways embraced too much technology which has zero relevance to the fan in the grandstand, and we have damaged the DNA of the sport.”
Now F1 CEO Domenicali, while talking about the fans and 2026, said, “The intention is to make sure in the new regulation the engine [noise] itself will be higher because that’s part of our emotion. It is really what our fans want to hear, and that’s the duty for us to commit to that. We need to have a different sound.“
It is believed that the new rules agreed upon for 2026 will retain the V6 turbos and increase the recovery of kinetic energy by the MGU-K but remove the thermal energy recovery system (MGU-H).

Stefano Domenicali indicates that there is no chance of F1 getting quieter
While the louder engines will make a comeback from the 2026 season of the sport, Domenicali was asked whether F1 could be moving toward the electrical drivetrains that produce minimal sound; as a response, he said, “No, it’s very clear, no. It’s just the situation is different. Of course, we need to be a hybrid; we’re going to hybrid for the future.”
Moreover, Christian Horner, the Red Bull Team Principal, was also previously asked to comment on the louder engines in F1, and while sharing his thoughts, he added, “The noise is part of the emotion. It’s part of the DNA of the sport“. The fans have always backed F1 personals who advocated for the return of the unique sound of roaring F1 engines.
Everyone is quite excited about the return of the louder engines, and considering how the hype has already started to build, 2026 could prove to be an extra special year in F1 history. The fans are also excited to see how the competitiveness will change with the new regulations, as F1 is still struggling to put on entertaining races due to one team dominating all the races.
