Mick Schumacher will have two motorsport roles this year. The German driver will continue as the Mercedes F1 reserve for a second year while joining Alpine’s Hypercar program in the World Endurance Championship. The two teams have already ensured that there is no conflict between Schumacher’s duties with specific contract clauses. However, the 24-year-old’s duties were still a problem for two luxury watchmakers.

Formula 1 drivers usually have exclusive deals with luxury watchmakers as per their contracts. However, Schumacher’s duties at Mercedes and Alpine will see him advertise two different Swiss watchmakers. The Silver Arrows have been sponsored by IWC Schaffhausen for several years now. While Alpine has announced a deal with H. Moser & Cie for the upcoming season.

As per reports, the two Swiss watchmakers have decided on a “special deal” for Mick Schumacher. The German driver will be wearing IWC watches during his reserve driver duties for Mercedes in F1. However, the 24-year-old would only wear watches from H. Moser & Cie when he is racing for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship including the iconic 24 hours of Le Mans.

Luxury watches have an enormous market globally. Motorsport is one of the biggest arenas where watchmakers spend millions of dollars every year to promote their products. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was given a special edition watch from Richard Mille worth $3.2 million. Unfortunately, Leclerc’s special watch was robbed in 2022.

Can Mick Schumacher return to Formula 1?

Mick Schumacher spent two seasons in F1 with the Haas F1 team. Unfortunately, the German driver failed to deliver satisfactory results for the American team and had multiple incidents that cost millions in repair bills. Subsequently, Schumacher was replaced by Nico Hulkenberg last year.

The 24-year-old has stayed on the sidelines with his reserve role at Mercedes. However, Schumacher has been vocal about his desire to return to the grid full-time. Lewis Hamilton’s shock Ferrari switch could open up a perfect opportunity for the German driver. Mick Schumacher has admitted that he would be looking to grab such a chance if a door is left open.

Certainly, Mick Schumacher’s Alpine stint in 2024 could help re-establish himself as a talented driver. The German driver would be looking to prove his worth once again after two disastrous seasons at Haas. However, it remains to be seen how Schumacher performs in the world of endurance racing this year.
