“Switching off gives me a natural reset,” Daniel Ricciardo is looking to start the second half of 2022 with a “positive mindset”
Daniel Ricciardo
Daniel Ricciardo had a torrid first half of the 2022 F1 season behind the wheel of the MCL36 but ahead of the return of Formula One the Australian has indicated that he is going to come back in a positive frame of mind.
The shenanigans regarding Ricciardo’s seat at McLaren are at an all-time high and with the rumor of Oscar Piastri being looked at as the potential driver for 2023, the Australian has got a lot of work to do in order to impress the other teams in the paddock.
The drama regarding the 33-year-old’s seat started when Fernando Alonso announced that he is going to drive for Aston Martin next season and from then onward the Alpine F1 team took the liberty to promote Oscar Piastri to the senior team for the 2023 season.
Everything was in control till this point, however, things took a nasty turn when the Alpine reserve driver announced that he has not signed a contract with the Enstone-based F1 team and also stated that he is not going to drive for them next season.
Declining an F1 seat is no joke and given the confidence that Piastri showed in his statement, it is believed that it stemmed from him having assurances regarding the 2023 seat at McLaren.
Daniel Ricciardo’s views on the second half of the 2022 F1 season
Daniel Ricciardo at the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix said that he is going to recharge his batteries during the summer break and come back with a positive mindset.
Moreover, while stressing about it Ricciardo said, “To be honest, switching off normally gives me like a natural reset.”
“To a point where I imagine in, say, 10 days, two weeks into the break, I would have kind of got the holiday out of my system and then I’ll build that hunger back again.”
“So I’ll naturally think about it, after getting time off. That’s normally how it works for me.”
“Again, go out with friends, drink some beers, and have fun. And then I’ll get to the point when I start to not feel guilty but just like ‘all right, time to turn it on again’. Then it’s kind of a natural switch that will come back probably after 14 days.”
“A bit like last year, [I want to] kind of start that second half of this season with a positive bang and just get the ball rolling. The triple-header, it’s intense.”
“So I think come out and set some strong intentions. That’s the plan. Obviously, it’s easier said than done. But that’s certainly the plan.”
Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula One future is in limbo at the moment, and he has got a total of 9 races to make a solid comeback and remained the world that he still has what it takes to perform at a high level in the sport.
F1 is cutthroat, where there is no place for the timid, and after considering the 33-year-old’s first half of the current season, he can’t afford to make any unnecessary errors in the remaining races of the season.
Alpine is a potential option for Daniel Ricciardo but it is not a certainty as many drivers on the market would do about anything to get the second seat on the team.
Moreover, Haas and Alfa Romeo also have a seat each available as they have not yet decided on the future of their drivers Mick Schumacher and Guanyu Zhou.
The second half of the season is getting underway on the 26th of August and considering everything that has gone on around Ricciardo’s seat, the Australian has to deliver if he wants to make sure that he has a seat in his name for next season in F1. Would he be able to secure a seat for next season, and if yes, where do you think he is going to end up?
