George is extremely pleased with his outing in Zandvoort, and so he should be as during the race he was always able to stay in touching distance of the front runners and on the back of some luck was able to end up P2 in front of Lewis Hamilton.

The 23-year-old was able to make the slick move on Hamilton during the last few laps of the race, and most of it, was down to the fact that the 37-year-old was running an older set of medium tires while Russell, on the other hand, was on a fresh set of soft tires.

At one point of the race, George was looking all set to finish behind his teammate in the race, but the Valtteri bottas triggered safety car came to the rescue of the young Brit.

Under the safety car, Hamilton was leading the race and Mercedes decided against losing track position to Max Verstappen who was running behind him, however, when it came to George, the team had the opportunity of putting on a pair of soft tires and went forward with the strategy.

When the race ultimately got going again, Hamilton suffered on an older set, but Russell was able to thrive on a fresh set and ended up P2 ahead of the lights of Charles Leclerc.
