“The timing of the decision is incomprehensible” : Helmut Marko fuming over a possible penalty for Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez

Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Perez qualified for the Austrian Grand Prix in fourth place, but the Mexican driver has not yet appeared before the stewards. As a result of possibly breaking track regulations in Turn 8 during Q2, Perez must see the stewards.

It was no longer feasible to set aside some time away from the 32-year-old driver once the race committee realised Perez might not have completely followed the rules. Q3 had already started.

“The timing of the decision is incomprehensible,” said Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko while giving his opinion on the incident regarding Sergio Perez. Christian Horner, the team principal of the Austria-based racing team, also stated that he did not comprehend why the stewards did not judge the lap sooner.

At 19:00 local time, Perez will have to address the stewards to discuss the situation. The Mexican might be subject to a retrospective (grid) penalty. Sergio Perez recently became the first Mexican driver in Formula One history to win the Monaco Grand Prix.
