“The way he drove was just incredible,” Kevin Magnussen showers praise on Sebastian Vettel for his last lap exploits against him
Kevin and Sebastian
Kevin Magnussen, during the final lap of the United States GP, was immersed in an edge-of-the-seat battle against Sebastian Vettel where he came up second best, and after the race, the Dane has indicated that his tussle with the former-four-time World Championship was some of the best racing he has done in his F1 career.
Kevin Magnussen was the only driver at COTA who was on a one-stop strategy during the race and while he was able to keep the car on track despite the excessing graining on his tires, he found himself in an intense battle with Vettel, who tore his way through the grid at insane speeds, after his team messed up his pit-stop.
Aston Martin took a lot of time in changing the tires on the German’s AMR22 and that dropped him back to P13, however, despite that, Vettel made his way up with the help of fresh tires and ran into Magnussen on the last lap of the race.
While sharing his opinion on the fight with Sebastian Vettel, Magnussen added, “It was a good battle. “Of course, I’m pissed off to lose out, but I have to say that was some of the best racing I’ve ever been involved in.”
“The way he drove was just incredible. It’s almost like I feel privileged to be able to race against someone like that. It’s great, and I’m going to take that lesson and treasure it.”
Kevin Magnussen has revealed that his team helped him a during the US GP
Kevin Magnussen ended the United States GP in P8 after Fernando Alonso dropped out of the Top 10 because of a 30-second penalty and while dwelling further on his performance he added, “Racing against him, it doesn’t feel like it’s at the end of his career. Just great driving from him, but of course (I’m) pissed off with myself that I just lost it on that last lap.”
“But still, some good points for us, great at this point in the season, and I’m very proud of the team for the job they’re doing.”
While Magnussen has applauded Sebastian Vettel for getting the better of him on the final lap of the United States GP, he has also taken the time to praise his own team for their efforts.
While stressing about the same, Magnussen added, “It was tough, but the team gave me all the guidance that I needed, I couldn’t have done it without that it’s all down to their preparation and guidance that we were able to pull this off.”
“I’m super proud, and at the same weekend as announcing MoneyGram as our future title sponsor, it couldn’t have been at a better time.”
The 30-year-old is extremely pleased with his exploits at the Circuit of the Americas and in the remaining three races of the current campaign, he would be looking for much of the same.
