Pierre Gasly had a weekend to forget in Austria where the Frenchman struggled with his car throughout the race and moreover, was given two 5-second time penalties.

Pierre Gasly has admitted to the fact that his team is not at the standard that they showed last year and is way behind the midfield pack that is getting farther and farther away with each and every Grand Prix.

The 26-year-old has deemed his outing at the Red Bull Ring as a disaster, he has very valid reasons for his assessment as despite starting the Sprint race from P10, Gasly had an unfortunate collision with Hamilton that spun his car around, and after then onwards, he was never able to fully recover and ended up four places down in P14.

If this was not enough, during race day a lot more misery was piled on the young shoulders of Gasly as he was not able to keep up with the rest of the cars around him and also had two 5 seconds penalties come his way.

The Frenchman this season has not got the machinery under him that could challenge the midfield pack and while dwelling on his terrible outing in Austria, Gasly said, “The whole weekend was a disaster, apart from qualifying.”

But then, we were nowhere in terms of pace. I tried to do everything I can inside the car, but at the moment there’s just nothing to do, so I think we desperately need these upgrades on the car to be able to get any decent results.”

Gasly on the time penalties that he got, “[It’s the] same rule for everyone. I didn’t respect it so I got penalized,”

[It was] my fault. I saw quite a lot of guys getting the black and white flag. I think it was better in the past without these track limits, but at the end of the day whatever rule they set we’ve got to respect it.”

Pierre was also involved in a collision with Sebastian Vettel during the race and while stressing about it said, “I tried to fight as hard as I can, and I took a penalty so I guess I’m the one to blame.”

Pierre Gasly understands why he recieved a penalty for the contact with Sebastian Vettel.

At the same time, when you’re fighting side-by-side it’s always a risk. I think we’ve seen it in the past and it wasn’t intentional.”

Fighting for P15, [there was] nothing really exciting there, but I haven’t seen the footage so I don’t argue the penalty. I guess if they gave it to me that I was the one to blame.”

Pierre Gasly’s 2022 season has turned out to be a nightmare so far and given that there are still 12 races left in the season, it is going to be fascinating to see how Gasly is going to act if things don’t improve at the AlphaTauri team going forwards into the season.
