“There is genuine respect,” Christian Horner opines on the Max Verstappen-Charles Leclerc rivalry

“There is genuine respect,” Christian Horner opines on the Max Verstappen-Charles Leclerc rivalry

Fans are just four races into the 2022 F1 season, but there has been no shortage of drama, whatsoever. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc have given fans some delightful moments so, as both drivers have won two races each. The Max Verstappen-Charles Leclerc rivalry dates back to the karting days, when they hated one another.

However, unlike the tense Hamilton-Verstappen F1 battle last year, there seems to be some sort of understanding and mutual respect between the two talented drivers. Red Bull team principal would agree with the above statement, since he believes that there is genuine respect between the duo.

“I think they’ve grown up racing each other in karting and so on, and they know each other very well. They come from the same generation, and there is a genuine respect between the two of them,” said Horner, as quoted by Motorsport.

Ferrari and Charles Leclerc finally have a competitive car after years of struggling in F1. This is the reason why the Italian giants are back on the top in both championships this season.

Christian Horner wary of a Ferrari comeback in Imola

It was Ferrari’s time to get unlucky on their home turf in Imola, as they dropped some crucial points. First, Carlos Sainz crashed out for a second race in the running, after his collision with Daniel Ricciardo on the first lap itself. Then, Charles Leclerc, who was comfortably placed in P3, tried to go push a bit too hard, which meant that he lost control of his F1-75. Eventually, all he could do was to manage a P6 finish.

However, Christian Horner realizes that Ferrari got unlucky in Imola, and they will come out all guns blazing again in Miami. Speaking about the title battle, Horner expects to see the pendulum drift back and forth in favor of Verstappen or Leclerc.

“Ferrari have got a great car, they’ve got great drivers. They’ve been unlucky [at Imola]. But for sure they’re going to be super competitive in two weeks’ time [in Miami]. And I think it’ll be like that for the whole season,” said Horner.

Red Bull will look to build on their Imola GP result, as the Miami GP will take place in the coming week. It is a completely new circuit with challenging conditions. Who comes out on top in Miami?
