“There is no crossover,” Daniel Ricciardo unperturbed by Indy car drivers testing F1 machinery with McLaren

Daniel Ricciardo
One driver who has failed to hit the ground running is Daniel Ricciardo. After a fairly decent first season, things haven’t worked out for the ‘honey badger’ and it has come to a point that there have been speculations around his future in F1. The Australian is currently 12th in the champions with mere 19 points throughout the length of the season, 51 points behind team mate, Lando Norris.
Daniel Ricciardo has a contract with McLaren until the end of the 2023 season and if he continues to perform like that it would be next to impossible for Zak Brown and Andreas Seidl to extend his contract. McLaren have tried to keep all their options open as they continue to give different drivers a test of their machinery to figure out which one fits the best in their plans.
Despite all of this, Daniel Ricciardo is fairly confident that he will get to see his contract out and might also extend the contract, which sounds like a stretch after seeing how things have been off late. There was some sort of response from him at the French GP but he needs to do this week in and week out if McLaren wants to finish ahead of Alpine in the constructor’s championship.

Daniel Ricciardo not concerned with rumors of Indy cars joining F1 with McLaren

With speculation of one of the Indy Car drivers primed for seat with McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo has given his take on the issue. He said, “I think it’s only been what the media has made of it. Any of the IndyCar drivers that have done even some F1 testing, as Colton has done, their programme is fully IndyCar.“
“It’s a chance for them to get behind the wheel of F1 but there’s no crossover.“
“The media kind of sees that and thinks ‘oh, what’s going to happen, is this potentially an F1 seat or something?’, but it’s only what they have made it out to be.“
“Internally, everything’s very clear about where we stand as a team and who’s driving what category.”
Daniel Ricciardo confident of continuing his career in F1 with McLaren despite rumors of various Indy cars having a chance of replace the Australian in the furture.
