Thieves hilariously mess up an attempt to steal Australian legend Sir Jack Brabham’s $500K worth F1 Championship-winning car
Thieves have recently botched an attempt of stealing Sir, Jack Brabham's 1966 F1 Championship winning car.
Jack Brabham
It has come to light that thieves recently made an unsuccessful attempt at stealing F1 legend, Sir Jack Brabham’s 1966 Championship winning car. The thieves initially managed to steal the car from a locked trailer only to hit a stumbling block. The thieves were not able to start the car in order to make their theft a success.
The car that they tried to steal has a huge place in Australian motorsports history. At the same time, the thieves were unsuccessful in their attempt. The car is one of just six that were ever made. The car was kept at the racing enthusiast, Peter Williams’ Toorak home.
Willims has talked about the whole fiasco and said, “You can imagine I had a pretty sick feeling at about that moment, I heard a bit of noise at about four o’clock so I went outside and went to the trailer and saw that it was all burst open and the car was gone. I told my wife that the car had been pinched and about 10 minutes later the police knocked on the door.”
Looking at William’s comments, it is pretty safe to assume that he was panic-stricken. Moreover, considering what was at stake, his reaction is totally understandable. No one wants to see something as prestigious as the 1966 F1 Championship-winning car stolen from right under their noses.
Sir Jack Brabham’s car was found within 10 minutes of the theft
While there was a lot of panic in Peter William’s house after the car was stolen, he took a deep sigh of relief when the police showed up and said they had found the car. All this happened within a span of just 10 minutes. While talking about the police, he said, “He (the police officer) said, ‘we have found your car.”
He further added, “Why people would even want to pinch something like this because you can’t sell it. How could you sell a car like this? There are only six of them in the world.” It has also come to light that the car was worth a whopping $500,000.
The thieves were not successful in their attempt, and one of the main reasons behind it is that Brabham F1 racing cars do not need keys to start. However, there is a complex start-up procedure, and the thieves were just not able to figure it out. The thieves might have had the brawns, but they clearly lacked the brains to pull off such a huge robbery.
While everything is back to normal now, Peter Williams will never forget the recent events. Moreover, considering how easily the thieves were able to bet their hands on the prestigious car, he would probably need to upgrade his security systems so that such an incident never happens again.
