Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas has a love for the Australian continent like no other non-Aussie on the grid. The Finnish driver has donned the Mullet hairstyle for a couple of years now. The 34-year-old has become synonymous with Australia on the F1 grid perhaps on par with local stars Daniel Ricciardo and Oscar Piastri. Additionally, Bottas also has a girlfriend who is an Australian citizen.
Valtteri Bottas was present at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival ahead of the Australian GP. David Crofty was also present as the presenter of the event. Speedcafe presented the Finnish driver with a special cap to make him to an honorary Australian Citizen. The 34-year-old was flabbergasted at receiving such an honor from the citizens. Bottas was also donning the mullet hairstyle for the 2024 season to showcase his love for the country.
Bottas also has an Australian girlfriend, Tiffany Cromwell who was also present at the event. Cromwell also cheered up upon seeing his boyfriend receiving such an honor. Subsequently, the 34-year-old indulged in a Q&A session alongside his girlfriend at the event. Bottas mentioned how he was speechless after receiving the honorary cap to provide him with honorary Australian citizenship.
Thank you. I’m speechless.Bottas told speedcafe.com.
Valtteri Bottas drove Adrian Newey-designed Leyton House F1 car from 1989
Valtteri Bottas also had the honor to get inside the cockpit of Adrian Newey‘s designed Leyton House F1 car from 1989. Bottas drove the March CG891 which was driven throughout the 1989 season. Hence, the entire festival was a completely awesome time spent alongside his girlfriend.
Apart from this, Bottas also got inside the Barabham BT62 during the festival, before driving the Leyton House. Previously, the Finnish driver also had the honor of driving the 2016 Bathurst-winning Holden Commodore during last year’s event. As a result, the 34-year-old is a familiar face for the Aussie citizens especially those around the Southern regions of Australia.
Hence, the love for Australia for Bottas continues as he powers through the 2024 season. The Sauber driver has had a disappointing beginning to the season due to the mediocre challenger. However, time will tell about the advancements that Sauber brings about to their chassis down the season.
