The Austrian GP has always been an exciting round in the Formula 1 calendar. However, for the 2023 race iteration, the organizers had an ace up their sleeves with a jetpack performance. Though things did not go as planned. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was far from impressed when the person riding the jetpack crashed on track.
The jetpack rider was doing a full lap around the Red Bull Ring. The man almost made his way across the entire circuit but unfortunately crashed out right at the ending stages of the track. Oscar Piastri was keenly watching this lap. Subsequently, the camera focused on the Australian driver to get this shocked reaction live on TV.
The McLaren driver was understandably surprised to see the person crash. The 22-year-old was concerned about the jetpack rider after this massive incident. However, it appears that the jetpack man was okay. Piastri would not have expected this to be the way to start his day at the Austrian GP race day. It remains a rather unique F1 parade lap.

Fans on Twitter were confused by this unusual sight. One user could not understand why there was a jetpack rider at the Grand Prix. The user asked, “What the?”On the other hand, one fan liked the idea and was keen on getting their hands on a jetpack. Despite the crash incurred by the rider. The fan commented, “It looked cool tbh. I wanna do it.”
Another user believed that Red Bull Ring had given wings to the rider fulfilling the energy drink’s slogan, ‘Red Bull gives you wings.’ As such, the user replied, “Red Bull gives you wings.” Another fan took a lighthearted take on this incident and asked if it was Sergio Perez controlling the jetpack. The fan stated, “Is he Perez?” While another user pointed out Piastri’s reaction. The user wrote, “bro was flabbergasted.”
Thus, the Austrian GP parade lap had a rare sight this year as fans witnessed a lap being done on a jetpack. Certainly, going around the Red Bull Ring on a jet pack is a hard task that remains unfulfilled. Oscar Piastri would be hoping that something like this doesn’t happen to him as he might just stay away from jet packs for the time to come.
