Sergio Perez had a lot of pressure to perform as F1 headed to the Hungarian GP. The Mexican driver had failed to bring in good results for Red Bull for the last six races. However, the 33-year-old;s weekend has started with a disaster in Free Practice. Perez crashed his RB-19 in the first session of the weekend at the Hungaroring.

The Mexican driver binned the car less than five minutes into Free Practice 1. Perez lost control as he drove over some grass in the corner entry. This resulted in the Red Bull spinning out before crashing into the barriers. The 33-year-old failed to regain control of the car and could not avoid an early end to his session. Red Bull bosses Christian Horner and Helmut Marko did not seem pleased with their rival’s mistake

Checo went on the team radio to inform the team about his error. He said, “I clipped the grass I think. On braking, I just lost it.” The 33-year-old admitted his fault to the pit wall. Certainly, this is an unacceptable error made by a driver already facing pressure to perform. Once again, this puts Sergio Perez on the backfoot for the entire weekend.

Fans on Twitter were quick to express their views on this incident. One user claimed that Sergio Perez severely underperformed this season with reference to Sebastian Vettel’s failed title bid in 2018. The user wrote, “Perez choking this season harder than Vettel choked 2018.” Another fan was astonished to see Perez bin it to the barriers on his first flying lap of the weekend. The fan replied, “Wow. P1. Lap 1. Perez into the wall turn 5..”

On the other hand, Daniel Ricciardo‘s return to the grid with Red Bull’s sister team AlphaTauri made fans urge Milton Keynes to replace Perez with the Australian driver this weekend itself. One user said, “Talk about getting the worst possible start after Ricciardo coming back.” Similarly, another fan commented, “Is it possible to change driver line-up during a race weekend?” While another user stated, “*Laughs in Ricciardo*”

Thus, Sergio Perez has had the worst start to the Hungarian GP at a weekend when Daniel Ricciardo returns with Red Bull’s sister team. The Mexican driver seems to be cracking under pressure amidst rumors of being replaced in the future. Perez will need to bounce back right away this weekend to convince Milton Keynes that he still deserves his race seat.
