Alpine driver Pierre Gasly was not happy with his team when his teammate Esteban Ocon, just ahead on a push lap, backed off in the middle of his push lap. The Frenchman expressed his frustrations on the team radio about his teammate’s slow lap. Karel Loos, Gasly’s radio engineer, had to indulge to calm down the angry French.
The reported incident took place on the entry of turn 8. There, the front runner Ocon, on a push lap like his teammate, slowed down mid-lap when Gasly was right behind. Gasly had to slam on the brakes to not crash into Ocon reportedly. Who went very late into turn 8.
In the video, Gasly can be seen shouting at his engineer, asking, “What the **** is Esteban doing?”. His engineer responds by saying, “He’s backed off.” However, as of now, the reason why Ocon had to slow down in the middle of his push lap is unclear. The incident can also not be raised to the Stewards as both drivers represent Alpine.
“Yeah, but I’m pushing. Guys for **** sake,” replied Gasly when asked to discuss the incident after the session. “Just useless.” Gasly is audibly not happy with the team. The meeting after the particular incident will be one where a strong discussion might take place.

However, this is not the first time an incident has occurred between the new teammates. In Australia 2023, both drivers crashed into each other after not giving each other any space, resulting in the team’s double DNF.
David Croft’s reaction to the Alpine incident in FP1 at the Sao Paulo GP
Sky Sports F1 TV presenter and commentator David Croft was commenting on the Gasly-Ocon incident live. He and Martin Brundle believe all these incidents happening within teammates mostly happen between Gasly and Ocon. The two French teammates in the French team are lacking to find synergy within the team.
Yeah, I think that's a fair point from Gasly out there. It might be that Ocon has backed off, no issues, but the man behind (Gasly) is pushing, and you're backing off into him.
He believes Alpine needs to eliminate the problems between Gasly and Ocon for the team’s betterment. The team’s synergy is not very great, but it should be.
Alpine is currently sitting at P6 in the Constructor’s Standings with no one to defend from and no one to attack. The two teammates’ battle is being led by Gasly, who is 11 points clear of Ocon.
