“We can redeem ourselves with a good end to the season” Mick Schumacher believes Haas are slowly catching up

Mick Schumacher could potentially join Alpine

Haas had a fantastic start to the season in Bahrain. Kevin Magnussen finished a very impressive fifth, and even Mick Schumacher finished just outside of the points in 11th place. But after Imola, something began to fall away even for Kevin Magnussen. He had to wait for Silverstone to finish in the points again.

Of course, Silverstone was also the race where Mick Schumacher scored his first points in Formula 1, and in fact, he finished above Kevin Magnussen. This was Haas’ first double points finish since in almost 3 years when back in Germany in 2019 they had finished in the points. The next race was in Austria, and they repeated the feat there, and Mick Schumacher had an incredible race.

For a long time during the sprint race, the German was able to hold off Lewis Hamilton from overtaking him, albeit with some help from Kevin Magnussen in the form of DRS. During the race, Schumacher finished 6th, which is obviously, his highest ever finish. He seemed to have a better pace than Kevin Magnussen, evidenced by Schumacher overtaking him with relative ease. But France did not go as well.

People were in awe of Kevin Magnussen’s amazing result in Bahrain, and for a time it was thought that the car was good enough to compete for the points basically every race. However, their blank period from Miami to Silverstone certainly came with disappointment for the fans and the team.

A lot of the times it was reliability or incidents that destroyed their races, which certainly does not help in any way. Moreover, Haas have still not brought any major upgrades to the car, but they have been scheduled for Hungary, where Kevin Magnussen will get them. Haas had waited with the upgrades so that they could get it right, but they also experienced a few delays in the development stage, as the package was originally scheduled for France, as revealed in Haas’ preview for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Mick Schumacher had also expected the same, but he says that now they are aiming for a strong end to the season: “I think after the first race we were expecting to be a lot further up in the rankings than what we are at the moment but we’re slowly catching up and I think having a strong end to the season is just as valuable as having a strong start.”

He added that his P6 finish in Austria was his favourite moment of the season, and it is quite understandable why he would think that: “Unfortunately, we missed out on the start but now we can redeem ourselves and have a good end to the season. My favourite moment so far would be Austria.”

He said that it was very fun going wheel to wheel with such great drivers, and even coming out on top. As for his least favourite moment, he preferred them to be called ‘learning experiences’ instead, and so, he values such moments as well.
