The Italian Grand Prix was an especially memorable one for the 27-year-old Mercedes reserve driver Nyck De Vries as he replaced Alex Albon last weekend to make his debut at an official F1 race. He performed fabulously scoring points for the team in his debut, making himself an instant favorite among the fans.

Since Albon had to be admitted to the hospital for appendicitis surgery, De Vries replaced him and made his F1 debut. He drove alongside Nicholas Latifi and scored points for the team, placing himself 20th in the drivers’ championship.

Despite being happy for his teammate, Nicholas Latifi was not particularly impressed with De Vries’ performance. In an interview when asked about how De Vries performed he said, “That’s where the car was supposed to finish. I think if we’d been at the front, we could have driven there too. But our car can’t really be raced with it, it’s more: stay where you drive.”

Currently, Latifi is 21 in a 20-place driver championship which has attracted mockery from the fans towards him and many question if he will be able to keep a seat in the next F1 season or will be replaced by De Vries.

With Nyck De Vries scoring points on his debut F1 race and making himself an instant favorite among the fans. However, his performance has brought into question Latifi’s future with Williams next year since he has been unable to score a point for the team since the start of the season.

The fans have mocked Latifi and feel that he is undeserving of his seat. It is their belief that William is keeping him around because they are in need of his money. He has debunked such rumors but the mockery aimed at him has not stopped.

He is currently 21st in the Driver Standings with 6 races left to go and if he is unable to do so then he might just lose his F1 seat.
