“We need more time to evaluate the new package,” Pierre Gasly does not expect major changes in the Hungarian GP

Pierre Gasly
Pierre Gasly has looked a shadow of what he was last year and AlphaTauri’s eighth position in the constructor’s championship is a reflection of that. Last year, the Frenchman was in blistering form as he scored 110 out of AlphaTauri’s 142 points allowing Red Bull’s sister team to finish to P6 in the constructor’s championship.
Unfortunately, Gasly has only16 points to his name placing him P13 in the drivers’ standings, 1 point ahead of Sebastian Vettel. Hungaroring is one of the tracks that the AlphaTauri enjoys driving on. Gasly finished P5 in last year’s race with the fastest lap of the race. This will allow him to feel more comfortable and give him a fighting chance to end the first half of the season on a high note.
AlphaTauri has had a bad string of results and would have to do something to help out the struggling drivers. There were some major upgrades brought in for the French GP which raised the bar of expectations but nothing clicked at Paul Ricard with Gasly suffering a Q1 elimination and was only able to finish twelfth during the race. A result which AlphaTauri weren’t looking for.

Pierre Gasly believes it’s important to be patient with the upgrades

Pierre Gasly was evidently frustrated after his home race. He said, “We tried to fight to get back into the points and what we managed is P12, which clearly isn’t the performance we would have liked.”
But, he remains confident to bounce back. Ahead of the Hungarian GP, he said, “We need a bit more time evaluating the new package but there’s obviously a limit to how much we can do in just a few days.”
“There’s a great atmosphere at the Hungaroring. It always has a very big crowd and when we get back to the city in the evening, the fans are waiting for us at our hotel and they are very excited about the Grand Prix.”
There’s still a chance for AlphaTauri to overtake Haas and even fight with Alfa Romeo for P6 in the constructor’s champions. But, everything needs to come together or it’ll be too late.
