“We need to do better,” Charles Leclerc unhappy with Ferrari’s strategy after a disappointing P4 finish
Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc after a solid pole on Saturday was all set for his first Monaco win, but everything turned against him after he turned down to hard tyres. The race started on wets as the rain fell heavily which gave it an hour of delay. The start of the race was quite well for both the Ferraris, with the leader managing to get ahead by 5 seconds.
Sergio Perez who was on P3 pitted for the Intermediate tyres, trying for an undercut on Leclerc, which he managed and got ahead of car number 16 with P2 in the race. But as the track got drier and drier it was quite hard for the drivers to get ahead with Intermediates. At the moment Carlos Sainz was leading the race on wets with a plan to directly turn into slicks when the track is ready for it.
Max Verstappen all this time started gaining more and more time on Charles which forced the Ferrari strategist to call the home town boy to pit for Hard tyres, double staking him with Carlos on the same.
However, it all became chaos when the call for pit got reverted as negative but until then the Monacan had already pitted. He was furious with all the misleading calls and that was quite obvious in his radio message, “Fu**ing why? What are we doing,” slamming the pit wall said, Charles.
As the race ended with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez winning his third ever race, Sainz after fighting for P1 managed to get a tough P2 and championship leader Max Verstappen on P3. Charles managed a disappointing P4 yet again getting hit by a ‘curse’, this time for the win, expects the things to get much better in the season.
“I couldn’t have done any better. But that’s not making me feel any better. It’s a difficult day, and just to let you know, we need to do better.” said Charles after the race ended.
Championship Standing after the Monaco Grand Prix
Max Verstappen after a decent P3 is still on the top with 125 points, behind him is the unlucky Charles Leclerc with 116 points with an increased difference of 9 points from the lead. Sergio Perez has cut down the points difference with his teammate to 15 points and currently stands on P3 with 110 points.
Red Bull yet again managed to get both of its drivers to the podium yet again and is comfortably sitting on the top with 235 points. Ferrari was the fastest car on the track and could have enjoyed a lot more this weekend if not for the failed strategy, they are P2 with 199 points, 36 points behind the leaders.
