“We plan to have the wind tunnel ready by next year,” Andreas Seidl reveals McLaren’s plans to disrupt the ‘pecking order’ in the coming seasons

Andreas Seidl and Zak Brown are two of the most pro active individuals in F1 right now. The duo is always looking for opportunities to take McLaren back to its glory days. It has been a while that McLaren have been able to fight with the likes of Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes. It has so happened that they have fallen behind the likes of Alpine and are under threat of facing pressure from Alfa Romeo if they don’t up their game.
At the start of this season, FIA had announced that they will bring a massive overhaul in regulations which was in turn expected to disrupt the pecking order in the constructor’s championships. But, nothing of that stature has happened except for Mercedes’ fall from the top of the grid as Red Bull and Ferrari have proved to be the two front runners and the teams to beat this season.
McLaren has not been able to take advantage of the changes that have been brought in as they find themselves one place lower than where they finished last season. Does McLaren deserve to be here? To an extent, yes. There was a time when they looked like they could challenge Mercedes but as the season has gone on, the infrastructure inferiority has come to the fore and they have slipped down the table.
Andreas Seidl details as to why McLaren have struggled to disrupt the pecking order

Andreas Seidl, in his recent interview, came out to explain why they have fallen behind and what they will do to change it. He explained, “I didn’t expect a big change in the pecking order going into this new era of Formula 1. Because the teams that are simply better teams right now, with their established organisations – with their established infrastructure, with their established tools they are using.”
“Some of these teams, like Alpine, like Alfa Romeo, they have state-of-the-art infrastructure in place already. That’s why we have to accept that these guys can do as good as us, maybe even ahead of us at the moment.”
“In a year like this year, I see that, as a team, we’re making steps forward. We plan to have the wind tunnel ready [by the] middle of next year, which means part of the ’24 car development will benefit from the new wind tunnel already.”
Andreas Seidl is being very realistic, which is important for a team like McLaren. They know that they can’t compete with Ferrari and Red Bull and therefore need to look at the future.
