Zak Brown the McLaren CEO has recently announced the signing of IndyCar driver Alex Palou for the 2023 season. However, this update has been surrounded by clouds of controversy after what Palou’s current employers did ahead of McLaren’s announcement.

Alex Palou currently drives for Chip Ganassi Racing, which announced that they are extending the 25-year-old’s contract through 2023. Via their Twitter handle the team wrote, “He is a proven champion and one of the most formidable drivers in the world.”

However, what is interesting to note is the fact that hours after Ganassi’s tweet, the papaya-colored also took to their social media handle to give an update about Alex Palou’s future.

The IndyCar driver via a tweet revealed that the press release done by Chip Ganassi Racing was done without permission and the words that are associated with him are not his.

While stressing about it, Palou said, “I did not approve that press release, and I did not author or approve that quote. As I have recently informed CGR, for personal reasons, I do not intend to continue with the team after 2022. This evening’s unfortunate events aside, I have great respect for the CGR team, and look forward to finishing this season strongly together.”

After signing with McLaren it has been announced that the Spaniard will be a part of the papaya-colored team’s test program alongside fellow IndyCar drivers Pato O’ward and Colton Herta.

The team is adding to its pool of drivers on a consistent basis this season and after signing Palou, the competition for the second seat at the McLaren F1 team has increased ten-fold.

Daniel Ricciardo has got a contract at the Woking-based team till the end of the 2023 season, however, considering the rumors that have been flying around, there are no guarantees that the Australian would be at the team come the start of 2023.

As far as Pilou is concerned, the team has not announced in which series he is going to take part yet, but it is believed that he will continue to race in IndyCar alongside O’ward for Arrow McLaren.

Delighted with the signing Zak Brown has said, “We have always said that we want the best talent at McLaren, and it’s exciting to be able to include Alex on that list. I’m also looking forward to seeing him get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car as part of our Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) program alongside Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta as we continue to build our driver talent.”

Zak is excited after adding another young driver to the team’s stable and given the shenanigans that are taking place around the second seat at the F1 team, it is going to be quite fascinating to see who ultimately is able to get it, or whether Ricciardo would be able to hang on to it.
