“We will be working with him on a long-term basis,” Jost Capito is extremely happy after signing Alex Albon on a multi-year deal
Alex Albon
Alex Albon has signed a new contract with the Williams Formula One team and its Team Principal Jost Capito is extremely pleased with securing the services of the Thai-British driver for several years.
The relationship is believed to be long-term, however, the exact number of years has not been made public. Jost Capito is happy with Alex Albon extending his contract and has said, “Alex is a tremendous driver and valued member of Williams Racing, so we’re thrilled to be able to confirm we will be working with him on a long-term basis.”
Albon during the 2022 F1 season has done well for the Williams team and has also managed to score three points that after 13 rounds, remain the only points that the team has got on the board.
Moreover, he has performed way better than Nicholas Latifi who has been with the team for quite a number of years. The move by Williams makes a lot of sense and Capito while appreciating Albon has said, “Alex brings a great blend of skill and insightful learnings that will help bring the team greater success in the future.
“He’s a fierce competitor, has proved a popular and loyal team member and we are delighted that he will provide a stable base for us to continue to develop in this new F1 car era.”
Does Alex Albon still have links within the Red Bull F1 team?
Alex Albon did not have a seat for the 2021 Formula One season and during that time he was asked to serve as the reserve driver for the Red Bull and AlphaTauri F1 team.
However, with a seat secured for 2023 and beyond with Williams, the question is whether the 26-year-old still has ties within the Red Bull setup.
Red Bull is currently on a different trajectory after tying down Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez on long-term contracts, moreover, with Alex Albon also committing his future to Williams, it is not going to come as a huge surprise if it comes out that Albon has cut all ties with the Milton-Keynes-based F1 team.
