“We’re not particularly happy with P3,” Charles Leclerc disappointed as Max Verstappen extends his lead to 109 points in the championship
The Dutch Grand Prix was an especially disappointing one for a team such as Ferrari and their lead driver, Charles Leclerc. The team and Leclerc went into the race with a winning mindset and an advantage in downforce over the Red-Bull team.
As the race started, Max looked especially quick considering he had new soft tyres while the Ferrari drivers were on the used soft tyres. This was a slight disadvantage to the Ferrari team but they did not lose hope and continued on. As the race continued, the first sign of disaster struck when the mechanics messed up Carlos Sainz’s pit-stop losing him crucial time and dropping him on the grid.
The Monegasque driver may not have faced such issues, but after his pit stop, he seemed to be slower than the Mercedes and Red-Bull on the medium tires which spelt disaster for him. With Mercedes in the mix as potential contenders for the race, Charles had more than just the Red-Bull of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to worry about.
In the end, despite all odds, Charles was able to secure a podium position, winning third place in the race. It may seem like a good result to others, but to Charles this was very disappointing as this meant the driver’s championship was slipping from his grasp at every race and could very well be out of his hands by the outcome of the next two races.
Does Charles Leclerc still have a chance to win the World Championship?
The 2022 F1 season started off very well for Ferrari and in the start they seemed like a strong contender against Red-Bull to win the championship. However, as the season continued, the championship seems to be slowly leaving the hands of Ferrari for good.
Several botched strategy calls, reliability issues and driver errors have contributed to this and it has been a pain watching these mistakes repeat time and again. Charles Leclerc, the lead driver who was leading the driver’s championship is now 109 points behind the leader Max Verstappen and if this continues the championship could very well leave his hands.
With 7 races left in the season, unless Ferrari pull off a miracle it will be impossible for Charles to win the championship. Unless Ferrari buck up and their team stops making silly errors they could still fight in the championship and possibly pull off a miracle and win it as well.
