“We’ve been extremely disappointed,” Laurent Rossi unhappy with Oscar Piastri’s ‘disloyal’ behaviour towards Alpine
Oscar Piastri
Oscar Piastri has been officially announced as a McLaren driver for the 2023 season. Laurent Rossi, Alpine’s CEO, opens up on Oscar’s last-moment turn-up from Alpine. The French team received a two-way disappointment after losing out on probably two of its best drivers. CEO expresses his grudges after investing a lot in the young driver but has no bad feelings for the 41-year-old former driver.
Oscar Piastri was anonymously announced as an Alpine driver out of his context to which he replied with a very open answer of not driving for them. Alpine took things over to the court in hopes to retain their driver from the direct rival. McLaren ultimately got Oscar for the next season after ruling out Daniel Ricciardo from his seat. These shuffles are now being termed a silly season.
Laurent Rossi keeps his disappointments ahead of Oscar’s exit and gives many explanations for the driver getting successful after being loyal to their parent team, which Oscar failed to do. “With Oscar, it’s very disappointing because we’ve been extremely committed and we’ve been extremely loyal,” said Rossi.
“George Russell spent three years at Williams, a good school if any, to learn the ropes and then go back to the mothership. Charles Leclerc did the same a year [at Sauber] before going back to Ferrari. Verstappen did the same, Seb Vettel did the same. The list is long,” said Laurent.

Laurent Rossi explains Fernando Alonso’s Alpine leaving move
Fernando Alonso took a turn in his career after moving to Aston Martin for the next season. Sebastian Vettel’s exit caused an opening at AMR and Fernando took over the world champions seat. This move was explained by Rossi as a disagreement with Alonso’s wants. Though he accepts to have no bad feelings for the 41-year-old driver.
“He wanted more than two years. We couldn’t offer it. Fernando is a great champion, he’s a legend of our sport and a legend of our brand. He’s still delivering, a great professional, so no bad feelings. That’s life. So we move on. So that’s Fernando that closes his case,” said Alonso.
Alpine is fighting McLaren for a P4 position. As the fight was on track now things have shifted to off-track politics as well. There could be a swap in drivers if Daniel joins Alpine. But as of now Oscar and Lando are confirmed as the 2023 lineup for McLaren with Esteban Ocon as the only driver for Alpine.
