Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack contends that Aston Martin has been falsely accused of emulating other Formula One cars. The team unveiled a new car for the Spanish Grand Prix that resembled Red Bull Racing’s RB18, but Krack strongly disagrees.

This season, Aston Martin has been receiving a lot of flak for its improvements. The team debuted a B-spec version of their car during the Spanish Grand Prix, but the Silverstone-based racing team was suspected of replicating Red Bull’s car. The FIA conducted an investigation but deduced that the team had not violated any regulations.

“Every team is bringing upgrades and we’re no different. People assume the upgrades haven’t worked because we haven’t climbed up the competitive order, but the upgrades have worked – just not enough for us to catch up,” said Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack in reference to the criticism that the team has been receiving.

Aston Martin presented a striking rear wing in Hungary, which appeared to contradict the intent of the new regulations. Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll are still near the back of the pack and must operate efficiently to finish in the points. Aston Martin is ninth in the Constructors’ Championship, seven points behind rival team AlphaTauri.

“We’ve been wrongly accused of copying this season, and the new rear wing we brought to the Hungarian Grand Prix underlined our ability to innovate and steal a march on the opposition by coming up with ideas our rivals haven’t,” concluded Krack.
