Charles Leclerc has put Ferrari on top of the leaderboard after winning two of the opening four races. The Monagesque has managed to perform excellently, extracting every bit of speed and performance and steered the F1-75 in the 2022 title race. Leclerc too looks to be on course to challenge Max Verstappen for the title championship.
The Monagesque had a rusty 2021 season where newcomer Carlos Sainz managed to perform consistently and claim podium places in a struggling Ferrari. The Spaniard managed to outperform Leclerc as the Scuderia managed to claim 3rd place in the 2021 Constructors championship. But Leclerc has managed to make the best of the new-generation cars and is the leader in his team.
Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto says Charles Leclerc made a huge improvement in the winter break and has adapted a mature mentality that has contributed to his success. Binotto has observed the championship leader is a lot more involved in the team’s decision making.

Mattia Binotto on Charles Leclerc: “He is very self-critical”
Charles Leclerc enjoyed a great start to the 2022 season with a Ferrari One-two finish in the season opener Bahrain GP and Grand Slam victory in Australia. Compared to last year when Leclerc managed to score only 40 points in the opening 4 races, he has made a comeback in the new-regulations car. Team principal Mattia Binotto was impressed by Leclerc’s progress each year and says he pushed himself to be a better driver.
Binotto said, “He is very self-critical. We met this winter to talk. What could he have done better? How could he do better? The way I see him working, whether it’s in Maranello, so in the factory or on the track in his debriefings, you can feel that he has changed. Even more involved“
Leclerc leads the driver’s championship with 86 points to his name. But his lead has been trimmed Max Verstappen claimed all the maximum possible 34 points this weekend with a win in the sprint race and the fastest lap of the Emilia Romagna GP. Leclerc will be hoping to extend his lead in the upcoming Miami GP on May 6-8.
