Zak Brown has not affirmed Daniel Ricciardo’s McLaren future, said will start the talk “probably later this year”

Zak Brown, CEO of Mclaren, in a talk with Formula 1 nation, said he is in “No Rush” to decide Daniel’s future. The Aussie has a contract with McLaren till the end of 2023. McLaren CEO said he and his team will make a decision much in advance about their next moves over the year.

Daniel Ricciardo was an ex-Red bull driver, he won 7 races with them and left for Renault in 2019. In 2021, he made a move to McLaren. The Aussie had a disappointing first season with the Brit team, though he managed a win in Monza but had a season he doesn’t really want to mention.

But 2022 hasn’t been the same, he seems to have a better hold with the car this season. Even though he has still been behind his teammate Lando Norris, but is getting comfortable race after race.

Or so, thinks the Boss, “His race days have been very strong, much better in qualifying. Listening to him earlier this week with the team, I think he still doesn’t feel he’s 10 out of 10 on top of the car, but he has got a great relationship with Lando [Norris], he knows the team well.”

It was great he was able to go back to Australia for the first time in a couple of years and recharge the batteries and see the family, so we’re really happy to see Daniel on top of his game.”.

Zak Brown also talks about options the team has, if not Daniel Ricciardo

McLaren is open to many other young drivers, who might become the successor of the seat Daniel Ricciardo has. Not only from Formula league but Indy car as well.

Pato O’Ward, a driver for McLaren in Indy Car could possibly be one of those. He completed the young driver test in Abu Dhabi last season.

One of the other potential drivers for McLaren could be Colton Herta, who is yet to have his young drivers test, but will complete it later this year.

“We have another year together, we do like to think long out, hence doing some testing with Pato, we’re going to do some testing with Colton” said Brown, also talking about the young talent Ugo, “we’ve got Ugo in Formula 4, who put it on pole at his first race.

But after all these possibilities, McLaren is in no such hurry. They also still have to watch for Daniel till the end of the 2023 season.
