Formula 1 is a brutal sport. No matter how talented a driver is, they are only as good as their last race. This has led to downfalls of several drivers in the past. Now, 2016 F1 champion Nico Rosberg has hit out at fellow countryman Nico Hulkenberg‘s career.
Rosberg highlighted that a driver will get signed by a top team if they show they are one of the best. In case of Nico Hulkenberg, the former world champion asserted that he never showed this to the F1 paddock. Hulkenberg spent the entirety of his career in the midfield with teams like Force India, Renault and Haas.
Moreover, Nico Rosberg emphasized that the Audi driver lacks social intelligence. Hulkenberg seemingly did not create the required connections with various team bosses. So much so that Rosberg blamed the 37-year-old for burning bridges early on in his career, something that could’ve been avoided.
Nico Rosberg pinpoints ‘unbelievable’ record of Nico Hulkenberg
Nico Hulkenberg holds the record for the most F1 races without a podium finish. The 37-year-old has had 227 starts in the sport, but has failed to finish in the top 3. Rosberg can not fathom this unbelievable statistic. The 2016 champion recalled that Hulkenberg used to be the most promising talent in junior categories and even showed glimpses of brilliance in F1. Yet, the Audi driver failed to live up to expectations.
Hulkenberg will join Audi’s Sauber F1 team this season. The 37-year-old will hope that the German carmaker gives him a quick car with the new rules in 2026. However, the situation within the team seems grim at this moment. It is likely that Nico Hulkenberg could face another difficult couple of seasons in the sport.
