Oscar Piastri suffered from a woeful ending to his performances in the 2025 season. The Aussie was unable to win the driver’s title despite leading the standings for the majority of the season. As such, Piastri will certainly be hungrier for winning the title this time around. Now, F1 pundit Martin Brundle reveals that the 24-year-old will come back with a ‘vengeance’ against the rivals in 2026.

Oscar Piastri was put at a disadvantage by McLaren multiple times because of the team orders. Though Piastri refused to play the second fiddle to Lando Norris, it was too late for his championship hopes. The Aussie lost the championship to Norris by just 13 points and finished in third. Hence, the 24-year-old will now hope to start the season off with a bang and avoid a similar fate to the previous year.

Martin Brundle highlighted that Oscar Piastri will certainly return with a vengeance. The Englishman highlighted that the 24-year-old learnt a lot through the disappointments in the previous season. Brundle pointed out how losing the title was both painful and brilliant at the same time for the McLaren star.

Further, Martin Brundle revealed how the low-grip circuits remained a weakness for Oscar Piastri, as his performances on these circuits remained mediocre. As such, Piastri needed to figure out how to perform well on these circuits as well. For now, the Aussie will focus on the pre-season testing and helping Mercedes develop the best possible power unit that can help McLaren maximize their performance as well.

I think he’ll come back with a vengeance, to be honest, It was partly painful, partly brilliant for him last year. He learned a lot. I think that it’s openly accepted that on the really low-grip circuits, he’s not getting the best out of the car and out of the tyre, so he knows he’s got to fix that.

Martin Brundle told Sky Sports F1.

Martin Brundle reveals Oscar Piastri’s ‘drive’ for success in 2026

Oscar Piastri achieved the second-most joint victories in the 2025 season, having tied with Lando Norris at seven race wins. Some of these victories were very impressive from Piastri, more so as he is just in his third season in Formula 1. Because of such promising performance so far, Martin Brundle is confident that the 24-year-old will only achieve more success in the upcoming year.

Martin Brundle believes that Oscar Piastri will take a lot from the dominant victories that he picked up in the previous season. Further, the Englishman explained that the pain of losing the championship after such an impressive season would drive him to achieve more success in the 2026 season. Apart from this, Piastri was an extremely competitive person who would certainly make a big step forward under the new regulations.

Some of the victories he’s had were so dominant, so impressive. I think he’ll take a lot from that. I’m sure it was painful in the end for him and I think that will be a driver [for him this season]. We’ve observed him. He’s an incredibly bright lad and he’s clearly competitive. He’s a worker. I think he’ll come back having made a big step forward.

Martin Brundle noted.

The new regulations being introduced in the 2026 season could cause some moments of doubt for Oscar Piastri. Still, he has shown time and again that he can perform well despite all odds and achieve a comeback on track. The 24-year-old is also more aware of the situation at McLaren, and wouldn’t be put at a disadvantage because of the team orders again.
