McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has been rumored to be seeking a move to Red Bull in 2026. The Milton Keynes-based team is currently unsure of Sergio Perez‘s future and might be interested in the prolific Australian driver.
Oscar Piastri has cemented his reputation as a top driver despite racing only two seasons in Formula 1 so far. On the other hand, Sergio Perez has been extremely inconsistent, failing to win even a single race this campaign.
Red Bull Technical Advisor Helmut Marko has adhered to the possibility of signing Piastri to the team. Marko claims that Mark Webber, who is the 23-year-old’s manager, wishes for intensive talks to be held regarding Piastri’s move.
Helmut Marko has urged Perez’ to perform well in order to keep his seat for 2025. With the 2024 season nearing a close, time is ticking for the Mexican to prove his worth. If Piastri continues to keep up with his form, a move might actually open for him in 2026 or even next year.
Red Bull urges Sergio Perez to deliver good results ahead of Mexican GP
The Mexican Grand Prix has always been an important home race for Sergio Perez, only this time with an added test. The 34-year-old’s performance could finally determine whether he gets to race for Red Bull in 2025.
Team Principal Christian Horner has claimed that Red Bull’s hopes in the constructors’ championship rest on Perez’s shoulders. He said that the Mexican’s poor form has greatly affected them against Ferrari and McLaren this season.
Christian Horner has supported the Mexican through his hardships ever since the 2023 season of F1. However, Horner must now cater to the needs of his team, for which he requires a good run from Perez now more than ever.
