Pierre Gasly confesses ‘mixed feelings’ for Belgian GP over Anthoine Hubert’s tragic incident in 2019

The Belgian GP around the Spa-Francorchamps circuit is one of the most iconic racing destinations in Formula 1. The circuit has seen some amazing highlights and multiple life-threatening incidents. The sport has continued to update the circuit to make it more safe for the drivers. However, Anthoine Hubert‘s death at the circuit in 2019 took a massive toll on Pierre Gasly‘s feelings towards the picturesque circuit.
Pierre Gasly was extremely close to Late Anthoine Hubert who passed away at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit while racing in Formula 2 in 2019. The Frenchman has since always remembered his close friend after the shocking incident. Speaking upon the 2024 Belgian GP, Gasly noted that the circuit was one of his favorites yet he had ‘mixed feelings’ while racing at the track.

Apart from this, the 28-year-old pointed out Alpine’s hopes for the Belgian GP. Gasly reckoned that the team hoped for better results before heading into the summer break. Additionally, the Frenchman recalled the French constructors’ great performance in their previous outing in Belgium.

Pierre Gasly claims Alpine was ‘unable’ to be competitive since the beginning of 2024
The start to the 2024 season saw a massively disappointing performance from Alpine. However, the team worked hard over the race weekends and have managed to amass a few points under their belt. Hence, Pierre Gasly further highlighted the French constructors’ goals for the upcoming Belgian GP.
Initially Gasly recalled Alpine’s start to the 2024 season and further highlighted that the team was in a better place and was still improving in performance.
We want to give our best because in the last few races we have not been able to be competitive. The first half of 2024 was difficult for everyone, in the factory and on the track, but we are in a better position than Bahrain and we can still improvePierre Gasly highlighted.
Alpine continues to work on their chassis to provide their two French drivers’ with the best opportunity. The Enstone-based team is currently in the eighth spot just above Williams with a lead of five points. Hence, the French constructor needs to massively up their game with Grove breathing down their necks.
