Adrian Newey is regarded as the best designer in the history of Formula 1. The Englishman won titles with Williams and McLaren before joining Red Bull two decades ago. Since then, the aero-genius created history with the Austrian team before deciding to leave the squad this season. Red Bull technical chief Pierre Wache admitted that he couldn’t be like Newey.
Wache is in-charge of Red Bull’s technical department following Adrian Newey’s exit. The 49-year-old recently claimed that the aero-genius deserved the 2024 title despite his departure from the team. Pierre Wache made it clear that he will never be able to achieve the success Newey achieved in F1. The Red Bull chief confessed that he would simply never be like the 65-year-old.
I will never achieve what he did. I will never become like him.Pierre Wache told Auto-motor-und-sport
Pierre Wache claimed that he simply lacks the passion Adrian Newey has for Formula 1. Newey has loved motorsport since his childhood and continued to work even during vacations. The aero-genius expresses his love for the sport in his book, ‘How to Build a Car.’ No matter how passionate Wache is for F1, he might never match Adrian Newey in this aspect.
Because I could never develop the total passion as he has.Pierre Wache stated
Pierre Wache reveals lessons learnt from Adrian Newey at Red Bull
Wache made it clear that Newey will go down as a legend in history books. The 49-year-old pointed out a lesson he learnt from the aero-genius. Pierre Wache highlighted that despite the incredible success Adrian Newey achieved in and outside of Formula 1, the 65-year-old remained technically unbiased. As such, the former Red Bull CTO was open to all design ideas at Milton Keynes, something which was rare according to Wache.

He was more than an inspiration. He is a legend... What I learned from him is that despite all those titles and victories, he remained technically unbiased. At his age, being open to everything is a remarkable quality, because as you get older, you often become blind to certain things.Pierre Wache explained
Certainly, Pierre Wache is full of praise for Adrian Newey. The Red Bull chief worked under the 65-year-old’s guidance for a long time. However, now Wache leads the technical department and would look to follow in the footsteps of his mentor. It remains to be seen if the 49-year-old can reach similar heights to Newey in Formula 1.
