F1 Race Director resigns with immediate effect amidst controversial races in 2024
Formula 1 race director Niels Wittich resigned from the sport with immediate effect due to multiple controversies in the 2024 season.

The 2024 season has peaked in excitement amidst the fierce competition. However, the recent few races have faced controversial situations due to multiple reasons. As a result, F1 Race Director Niels Wittich has resigned with immediate effect.
FIA has faced a lot of backlash in recent months due to the controversial rule changes. Moreover, the ill-timings of the Red Flag and Safety Cars at the Brazilian GP were also highly berated by the fans. As a result, Niels Wittich after joining the sport in 2022 has quit the sport for better opportunities.
The exact reason behind Wittich’s exit from Formula 1 is yet to be unveiled. An official statement by the FIA read that Wittich fulfilled numerous responsibilities as a Race Director. Moreover, the body thanked the German for his service and commitment to the sport in the two years he worked. Hence, Formula 1 is highly likely to receive multiple other such big changes in the coming season.
Rui Marques is all set to assume the role of race director for Las Vegas GP
The 2024 season has just three races pending as Formula 1 and FIA will have to replace Niels Wittich. Hence, the Portuguese Rui Marques will assume the role of the Race Director for the upcoming Las Vegas GP. Marques has already made his mark in the motorsport world after being the race director for F2 and F3 in the past. Moreover, he has also served the sport as a track marshal, international steward, and many more.
FIA has been facing a torrid time recently due to the major controversies surrounding the races and sport. Hence, the governing body must consider their actions which cause an uproar from the fans and drivers. The pinnacle of motorsport is heading towards massive growth in popularity in the coming seasons and thus, it must ensure such controversies do not continue.
