Michael Schumacher is believed to be one of the greatest if not the greatest driver to ever exist in Formula 1. The German has achieved maximum success in the sport and achieved a yet unbeatable record of championship wins. However, despite the major success, Ralf Schumacher revealed that their father didn’t want Schumacher to race in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Ralf Schumacher tried his hands in Formula 1 and scored some impressive results without a championship victory. The 49-year-old disclosed that his father Rolf Schumacher was never really into motorsport. The German claimed that his father preferred fishing over other forms of sports. Regardless of Michael Scumacher‘s success in the sport, their father never wanted both of them to pursue motorsports.

They’re not really into motor sport. My father doesn’t like that. He prefers fishing. Even when Michael was so successful, my father always said to me: ‘Please, do something different,’

Ralf Schumacher told The Times.

Schumacher Jr. recalled his father’s words and how he didn’t want his sons to participate in Formula 1 despite Michael’s monumental success. Schumacher Sr. believed that his first son got ‘lucky’ with his performances in the sport. Moreover, Rolf believed that two sons together wouldn’t be able to achieve similar success racing in the fastest one-seater category.

Even when Michael was in Formula 1, my father said: ‘No, no, forget it. He was so lucky. One is amazing already, but two [sons] will never make it. So do something else.

Rolf Schumacher wanted Ralf Schumacher to become a chef

Ralf Schumacher who had a short-lived career in Formula 1 decided to do something different with his life. The 49-year-old revealed that due to his father’s dislike of the sport, he wanted his second son to become a chef. The reason for this was that Schumacher Sr. believed that to be a ‘real job’ with which his son could make money, unlike motorsports.

He wanted me to be a chef, to have a proper job and not motor racing, because you cannot make money with it.

Ralf Schumacher noted

Rolf Schumacher would have been extremely surprised and proud of Michael after he achieved such grand success in Formula 1. Moreover, the German would’ve probably made a lot more racing than a chef could in a similar time frame. Hence, Ralf Schumacher decided to stick around the sport for a little bit longer and become a co-commentator at Sky Sports.
